Professional Training Program

The LABA PROFESSIONAL TRAINING Program
is designed for dance students in pursuit of a professional career in dance.

The Los Angeles Ballet Academy offers a two tiered Professional Program.

  • PTP 1 – 1 year of full time dance
  • PTP 2 – 2 years of full time dance

1st year of full time dance training has an emphasis on technical
development and strength training.
2nd year of full time dance training has an emphasis on performance
excellence and auditioning techniques.

All students must show proof of High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, or must show proof of concurrent enrollment in and Independent Study program ie. Keystone Independent Study or Laurel Springs Independent Study Program. Quarterly reports must be provided showing passing grades. Additional tutoring is available through LABA.

World-renowned teachers and choreographers offer progressive classes and repertoires that will ensure student progression and artistic development throughout the dance year. Students will be mentored in preparing audition CV's, videos & assisted individually in their job pursuit. Directors & choreographers will also be brought in to work with the student throughout the year.

Students will be offered a comprehensive program that includes a combination of curriculum and performing experience.

Curriculum requirements include 8 classical technique, pointe, variations and separate men's classes. Curriculum electives include your choice of 4 of modern, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop and Pilates. All PTP students must take a minimum of 12 classes per week.

  • Caring Full-time staff will that help nurture and guide student studies.
  • All classes held in recently built State-of-the-art studios with sprung floors.
  • Additional electives may be taken from the LABA 4 Life schedule.
  • Private Lesson Available by request

Examination curriculum is presented through the Royal Academy of Dance. Weekly preparation with our accredited staff. Annual testing by examiners from the Royal Academy of Dance.

Performance experience include

  • Performances with the Los Angeles Youth Ballet Theatre
  • Performances with Theatrics Dance Company
  • Participation in internationally attended competitions ie. Prix de Lausanne, Youth America Grand Prix
  • Student Choreography Workshop
  • Spring Dance Concert
  • Collaborated performances with Professional Dancers at the annual Momentum Dance Concert
  • Studio demonstrations and presentations

Los Angeles Ballet Academy students have gone on to join The Royal Ballet School, Milwaukee Ballet II , English National Ballet School, Boston Ballet School, Houston Ballet School, The Harid Conservatory, Pointe Park University, Washington Ballet School, Julliard School, Butler University, Chapman University, University of Arizona, UC Irvine, University of Santa Barbara and more (with a high percentage on scholarship)

LABA graduates have received professional contracts at San Francisco Ballet Company, Joffrey Ballet Company, Ballet San Jose, State Street Ballet, San Diego Ballet, Company C San Francisco, Estonian National Ballet, Los Angeles Ballet and other prestigious companies. Plus they are performing in Broadway shows and on television and film in dance related roles.

AUDITIONS

Interested applicants must attend an audition. Prospective students must have at least attained in intermediate level in classical ballet technique. Placement in the program is determined by a panel of Los Angeles Ballet Academy faculty.

On this day students must present a head shot and biography, copies of the last two years of school reports, last 2 dance certificates and a doctor's certificate of good health.

Students will take part in two classes: an open classical ballet class and a contemporary class. Ladies must bring pointe shoes. Requested students may be asked to present a short solo demonstrating their technical dance abilities.

For long distance students, a DVD is accepted in lieu of attendance at this audition. Note: DVD must contain a ballet class demonstrating barre work, center practice, pirouettes, adagio and allegro along with a contemporary dance combination and a classical solo. DVDs auditions for August 2012 will be accepted starting February 1, 2012.

Please contact the school or check the website for upcoming audition dates. Applications for the fall session of 2012 will be accepted starting March 1, 2012. Classes will begin on August 18, 2012.
